Progress: Mcleod Street Twin Clutch 11/12/00
History:
1st Clutch - Stock motor with bolt on's. At 18K
the stock clutch started slipping. I was really
dissapointed as the car had not really been raced
much and at the time I was babying it still for
the most part. Of course this is considered a
"consumable wear item" and not covered
under warranty.
2nd Clutch - Centerforce Dual Friction. This
clutch seemed to hold fine with the bolt on mods
but had a strange engagement, pulling off in 1st
was really strange and semi difficult. After
adding heads and cam to the engine this clutch no
longer held and started slipping, 35k Miles.
Perhaps the strange engagement was due to this
being Centerforce's 1st revision of the clutch
design.
3rd Clutch - LT4 Pressure Plate, Mcleod
Kevlar/Organic disk. Great setup. Engagement was
100% improved over the Centerforce DF, it
definatly held on motor which I figure was around
400 - 425 at the flywheel. Very streetable, light
pedal pressure, great release point. Really liked
this setup but with the addition of a Nitrous
Express kit on first test runs using 70hp jets
once again came that dissapointing clutch slip
that I have grown used to. : ( 42K miles.
4th Clutch - Mcleod Street Twin. This clutch is
expensive. for the setup with billet steel
flywheel. Initially I was just going to buy an
AMS Kevlar disk but found that the wear was
estimated at only 10k - 15K miles and at a disk
this was not an option. I have heard good things
on the street twin from other f-body owners and
am hoping that this will be the end all of my
clutch ordeals. Hopefully it will hold a 150hp
N20 shot and have decent longevity. Currently the
car is in the garage on jackstands and the
trannie on the floor... Will keep you posted on
the results!
